A fire has broken out on a business park in Great Harwood.

Fire crews from Great Harwood were called to the incident, on Waverledge Business Park on Rushton Street, just before 8pm on Sunday and on arrival they quickly called for more assistance due to the size of the incident.

Four fire engines, one from Hyndburn, the initial appliance from Great Harwood and two from Blackburn remain at the scene tackling the blaze.

It is not yet clear which unit has been affected or if anyone was in the unit when the fire started but firefighters say the unit was a derelict one.

It is also not clear whether any road closures have been put in place as a result of the incident.

There are several businesses on the park, including B&M Builders Merchants, D & B Cabinets LTD, UK Business Data, and Bitz4You Ltd.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "At 7.36pm on 10 April, four fire engines from Blackburn, Hyndburn, and Great Harwood attended a derelict building fire on Rushton Street, Great Harwood.

"The incident involved a derelict property.

"Firefighters used six breathing apparatus, one jet, one hose reel with a fog spike adapter, and one saw to extinguish the fire.

"Crews currently remain in attendance."

This is the second fire in the space of a week in Great Harwood.

Last Sunday, firefighters battled a large pallet fire just off Queen Street in the town.

Five fire engines with specialist equipment including an aerial ladder and a drone were sent to Queen Street after a blaze involving 2,000 wooden pallets broke out at around 2.35pm.

The crews put out flames using jets, small tools and breathing equipment.
